About this tartan

Baxter is an occupational surname meaning 'baker,' found across Scotland but historically concentrated in Fife, where a Reginald Baxter is recorded witnessing a church grant in the early 13th century; another early bearer, in Angus, swore fealty to John Balliol in the 1290s. The name does not have a chief recognised by the Court of the Lord Lyon, and its documented clan history is thin compared with larger Lowland families. One well-known later branch, the Baxters of Kincaldrum near Dundee, became important figures in the city's industrial-era weaving trade, while a different Baxter family built the well-known Speyside food business bearing the name
