About Clan Lundin

The Lundin family descended from an Anglo-Norman line that settled in Scotland in the twelfth century; King Malcolm IV granted the barony of Lundie in Forfarshire to one son and the barony of Lundin in Fife to another, splitting the family into two branches. The Fife line rose furthest: Sir Robert Lundie of Balgonie served as Master of the Royal Artillery and Lord High Treasurer of Scotland under James IV, and Andrew Lundin of Balgonie died at Flodden in 1513. In the seventeenth century the Fife estate passed by marriage to the Drummonds; John Drummond, who took the additional name Lundin, rose to become secretary of state and was created Earl of Melfort in 1686, only to lose his titles fleeing to France after the 1688 Revolution
