About Clan MacDiarmid
The MacDiarmids of Glen Lyon in Perthshire claimed to be the oldest, if not the original, family of that district. By tradition the name goes back to Diarmid O'Duibhne, the legendary ancestor of the Campbells of Lochawe, and the MacDiarmids are usually counted as a sept of Clan Campbell, with a traditional link to the Campbells of Breadalbane. The Breadalbane MacDiarmids, once styled 'of Craigianie', are said to be the oldest family in Glenlyon, and their old burial ground is at Morenish near Killin
