About Clan MacIntyre
Clan MacIntyre's Gaelic name, Clann an t-Saoir, means 'children of the carpenter,' reflecting the clan's traditional trade. Tradition connects the clan's founder to the kindred of Somerled, the 12th-century Gaelic-Norse lord of the Isles. For centuries the MacIntyres served as hereditary foresters to the Lords of Lorne, based at Glen Noe on the shores of Loch Etive in Argyll, and clan members also served as hereditary pipers to other Highland families, including Clan Menzies and Clan Chattan
