About Clan Malcolm

Clan Malcolm, also called Clan MacCallum, is a Highland clan of Lorne in Argyll, whose name comes from the Gaelic Maol Chaluim, 'devotee of St Columba.' The clan's documented chiefly line begins with Donald MacGillespie Vich O'Challum, confirmed in the lands of Poltalloch by Duncan Campbell of Duntrune in 1562. Duntrune Castle, reputed to be Scotland's oldest continuously inhabited castle, became the clan's historic seat, and the Poltalloch estate remains associated with the family. In the 18th and 19th centuries, some clan members built substantial wealth through involvement in the slave trade before redirecting fortunes into British agricultural improvement
