The Lord Lyon recognises one chief for all Morrisons, whether their families were related or not. The Lewis Morrisons, centred on Ness, took their name from MacGilleMhoire, son of a servant of Mary. The Lewis line's name comes from the Gaelic MacGilleMhoire, "son of a servant of (the Virgin) Mary," while the Harris Morrisons descended from a bardic family, the O Muirgheasain, who settled on Harris around 1600 in the service of the MacLeods
