About Clan Newman

Newman is an English surname of Anglo-Saxon origin (from Old English 'neowe' + 'mann,' roughly "new man," i.e. a newcomer to a place), recorded in the 12th-century Pipe Rolls in Norfolk in 1166 and in Oxfordshire in 1169. It has no distinct Scottish clan history or tartan tradition of its own and is not generally listed as a sept of any recognized Scottish clan.
