About Clan Skirving

Skirving is a Lowland Scottish surname said to be taken from the lands of Skirvane in East Lothian, and recorded heraldically as "Skirving and all that Ilk." Skirving families were long established in East Lothian, around Haddington, Humbie and Plewlandhill. The family produced several notable individuals rather than a chiefly line. By family tradition, Black John Skirving of Plewlandhill carried the standard of William Keith, 3rd Earl Marischal, at the Battle of Flodden in 1513, and that banner is now held by the Faculty of Advocates
