About Clan Watson
Clan Watson emerged in the Lowlands, its name a patronymic form of 'Watt,' a diminutive of Walter. Early records show Robert II re-granting the lands of Cranstonriddel in Midlothian to a William Watson in 1384, and the clan's chiefly line, the Watsons of Saughton, held Saughton near Edinburgh from at least the sixteenth century, when Richard Watson is recorded there in 1537. Genealogical tradition links western Watsons to Clan Buchanan and those in the northeast to Clan Forbes, and the name is counted as a sept of both
