About Clan Wishart
The surname comes from the Norman-French Guiscard or Wischard, meaning 'cunning', and has many spellings, including Wishard and Wisheart. John Wischard was Sheriff of Kincardineshire under Alexander II (1214–49). Robert Wishart, of a Mearns family, became Bishop of Glasgow in 1271, was one of the Guardians of Scotland after the death of Alexander III, and encouraged both William Wallace and Robert the Bruce in the fight for independence
