About this tartan

Clan Irvine traces its lineage to Gilchrist, son of Erwini, recorded around 1124, with the family later settling at Bonshaw in Dumfriesshire. William de Irwyn, a loyal aide to Robert the Bruce for two decades, was rewarded with the royal forest of Drum in Aberdeenshire, which became the clan's seat. The Irvines fought at the Battle of Harlaw in 1411 and were involved in the Anglo-Scottish Wars, the English Civil War, and the Jacobite risings of 1715 and 1745
