About this tartan
Clan Lindsay traces its Scottish roots to the early twelfth century, when the family arrived in the service of Prince David, later King David I, and was granted lands at Crawford in upper Clydesdale. It rose to national prominence in 1398, when Sir David Lindsay was created the first Earl of Crawford, one of the oldest earldoms in Scotland. Lindsays fought at the Battle of Flodden, signed the Declaration of Arbroath, and produced the fifteenth-century 'Tiger Earl,' Alexander Lindsay, whose rebellion against James II ended in an attainder for treason before a later pardon
