About this tartan

Newlands is a Scottish surname meaning newly cultivated or added land, tied to two minor baronies "of that Ilk" -- one in Kincardine, one in Peeblesshire. The family was later associated with Dalswinton, near Dumfries. Early recorded bearers include Jasper Newlands (1469), based at Dalswinton, and Duncan Newlandis, a bailie of Linlithgow, in 1493
