About this tartan

The Ogilvys trace their origin to a 12th-century grant of the barony of Angus, when Gille Brigte, Earl of Angus, gave the lands of Ogilvy to his son Gilbert. Over following centuries the family expanded across Angus, gaining the hereditary sheriffdom of the county and, in 1491, the title Lord Ogilvy of Airlie. Sir Patrick Ogilvy commanded Scottish troops fighting alongside Joan of Arc in France in 1429
