About Clan Adair
Robert the Bruce granted Thomas Edzear, probably an Adair, the lands of Kildonan in the Rhins of Wigtownshire. In the 16th century the Adairs built Dunskey Castle near Portpatrick. By the fifteenth century the family had become established in Wigtownshire as the Adairs of Kinhilt; Ninian Adair later rebuilt Dunskey 'on a more magnificent scale than ever,' and around 1510 the family built the Castle of St John in Stranraer
