About Clan Barclay
Clan Barclay is a Lowland Scottish family whose exact origins are debated: tradition long held that they descended from the Anglo-Norman Berkeley family of Gloucestershire, though modern research suggests a more likely independent Scottish migration in the 12th-13th centuries. The Barclays established themselves principally in Aberdeenshire, at Towie Barclay, and in Kincardineshire, notably at Urie near Stonehaven, with a further branch in Fife. A notable descendant, Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly, became a Field Marshal in Imperial Russia and commanded Russian forces against Napoleon
