About Clan Blane
Blane, also spelled Blain, is a surname most associated with Wigtownshire and Ayrshire in southwest Scotland, appearing in local records from the 16th and 17th centuries, including a provost of Wigtown in 1561. The name is sometimes connected to Saint Blane, a 6th-century bishop born on the Isle of Bute, whose cult produced several place names such as Kilblane. However, Blane does not appear to have functioned as an organized clan with its own chief or heraldry; it is better understood as a regional Scottish family surname rather than a clan in the traditional sense.
