£16.00The Carmichael name is territorial, from Lanarkshire. Robert de Carmichael appears in a Dryburgh Abbey charter of 1226, and Sir John de Carmichael received a charter for the lands of Carmichael between 1374 and 1384. The Carmichaels were close allies of the powerful Douglas family, and by the clan's own account fought beside them at Otterburn in 1388; later generations were divided by the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, with brothers reportedly fighting on opposing sides at the Battle of Marston Moor in 1644
