About Clan Chattan
Clan Chattan is not a single family but a historic confederation of Highland clans that banded together for mutual protection, including MacPherson, MacBean, Shaw of Tordarroch, MacGillivray, Davidson, MacQueen and MacPhail, joined later by the Farquharsons. Leadership of the confederation passed to Clan Mackintosh in 1291, when the Mackintosh chief married Eva, heiress of Clan Chattan, beginning a captaincy that lasted for centuries. The confederation fought together at the ritual Battle of the North Inch in 1396 and suffered heavy losses at Harlaw in 1411, and endured a long feud with Clan Cameron
