About Clan Chisholm
According to the historian Alexander Mackenzie, the Chisholms are of Norman and Saxon origin. The name is recorded in Roxburghshire, in the Scottish Borders, from the 13th century. The clan moved north into the Highlands after Alexander de Chisholme married Margaret, heiress of Erchless, in the 15th century, bringing Erchless Castle, at the foot of Strathglass about eight miles south-west of Beauly, into the family; it remained the seat of the chiefs from then on
