About Clan Edmonstone
The Edmonstone name traces to a follower of David I named Edmundus, who received lands in Lothian in the twelfth century and passed his name to them. A branch descending from a younger son of Sir John Edmonstone later acquired Duntreath in the Blane Valley north of Glasgow, an estate that once covered roughly 6,000 acres, and this Edmonstone of Duntreath line remained a significant lowland family with connections to the Scottish crown from the fourteenth century onward. Clan Edmonstone as a whole is armigerous, with no chief currently recognized by the Lord Lyon for the name overall, though a Duntreath baronet is regarded as chieftain of that specific branch
