About Clan Forbes
The name most probably comes from the lands of Forbes in Aberdeenshire, reputedly held by the family since William the Lion. The first on record is Duncan Forbes, granted lands by Alexander III in 1271-72. The family's head was made Lord Forbes sometime after 1436 and was styled so by 1442, a title still held by the clan chief today as the senior Lordship of Parliament in Scotland
