About Clan Ged

The name Ged may come from the place-name Geddes in Nairn, or from the Old English gedda, 'pike'. The pike on the arms of Ged of that Ilk is a pun on the name. An early reference is a Ged who sat as a juror on an inquest at Peebles in 1304, and in the 16th century the name appears among churchmen, such as James Ged in the diocese of St Andrews in 1536
