About Clan Heron

The Herons of Galloway held Kirroughtree in Kirkcudbrightshire as their family seat from the 14th or 15th century until the 1880s. The clan claims descent from the Herons of Chipchase Castle in Northumberland. Family members held offices on both sides of the border in the thirteenth century: Walter Heron was clerk to William the Lion, and William Heron was keeper of Bamburgh and Scarborough Castles and Sheriff of Northumberland
