£16.00A Highland clan of Badenoch and part of the Chattan Confederation. Its Gaelic name, Mac a' Phearsain, means 'son of the parson'; its progenitor is believed to have been Muireach, priest of Kingussie. Clan tradition holds that in 1309 Robert the Bruce offered the lands of Badenoch to the Macpherson chief if the clan destroyed his enemies the Comyns, and the clan's stronghold was later Cluny Castle, about five miles south-west of Newtonmore
