£16.00£20.00Clan Menzies descends from a Norman family, originally styled de Meyners, whose Sir Robert de Meyners rose at the court of Alexander II and became chamberlain in 1249, receiving lands in Glen Lyon and Atholl. A later Sir Robert, a companion of Robert the Bruce, was awarded lands in Glen Dochart, Finlarig, Glen Orchy and Durisdeer. In 1488 Sir Robert Menzies built a new stronghold at Weem, the Place of Weem; the Menzies lands were erected into a free barony in 1510, and the family's later stronghold there is today's Castle Menzies
