About Clan Pringle
Clan Pringle is a Borders clan whose name, originally Hoppringill, is recorded from the reign of Alexander III and derives from a place near Stow on Gala Water. For generations the Pringles served as squires to the Earls of Douglas and became prominent in the Borders wool trade. The Pringles of Torwoodlee, established in 1501, held their estate continuously for centuries; the first laird was killed at Flodden in 1513 alongside many other Border families
