About Clan Seton

The Seton name is believed to come from the village of Sai in Normandy. By 1150 Alexander de Seton had witnessed a charter of King David I. The family's fortunes became entwined with Robert the Bruce after Sir Christopher Seton married Bruce's sister and witnessed his coronation in 1306, only to be captured by the English and executed at Dumfries later that year; Sir Alexander Seton, probably his brother, restored the family's standing and was among the nobles who signed the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320
