About Clan Trotter
Clan Trotter is a Scottish Borders family whose name is traditionally said to derive from the Old French 'trotier' (runner or messenger), after an ancestor reputedly served as a swift courier for James III. A chief of the name was killed at the Battle of Flodden in 1513, the Trotters of Catchelraw were fined in 1645 for aiding the royalist Marquess of Montrose, and in 1745 Dr John Trotter sheltered sick Jacobite soldiers
