About Clan Wallace

Clan Wallace is a Lowland clan of Ayrshire and Renfrewshire whose ancestor Richard Wallace is said to have come to Scotland among the followers of Walter FitzAlan, Steward to David I, of a Breton family. The name may come from Le Waleis, "the Welshman," and Richard is still remembered in the name of the village of Riccarton. The clan's most celebrated member is Sir William Wallace, the late-13th-century leader of Scottish resistance against English rule
