About Clan Young
The name Young is recorded in Scotland from 1271, when Malmor and Ade Young appear at Dumbarton. In the Borders, the Youngs of East Teviotdale were one of the riding (reiver) surnames of the Middle March. The best-known historical figure of the name is Sir Peter Young (1544-1628), born in Dundee, who in 1570 was appointed joint tutor to the young King James VI alongside George Buchanan, later served as the king's master almoner and envoy to Denmark, and was knighted in 1605
