About this tartan

The Crosbie surname likely derives from Old Norse words for 'cross' and 'farmstead,' rendered in Gaelic as Mac an Chrosain. The family is documented in Scotland from at least 1178, when a Crosbie witnessed a charter to Arbroath Abbey, and later held lands across Wigtownshire, Dumfriesshire, and Ayrshire, with Crosbie Towers in West Kilbride associated with the name. A separate Irish branch descended from a bardic family and later anglicized its name to Crosbie in the 16th century
