About this tartan

Clan Dunbar traces its origins to Gospatric, a Northumbrian earl driven north by William the Conqueror, who was granted the lordship of Dunbar by King Malcolm III in the late 11th century. His descendants built one of the most powerful lowland dynasties in medieval Scotland, holding the earldom of Dunbar and March and serving as Justiciars of Lothian. The family's most celebrated figure is 'Black Agnes,' Countess of Dunbar, who famously withstood a six-week English siege of Dunbar Castle in 1338 while her husband was away
