About this tartan

Clan Farquharson is a Highland clan of Deeside in Aberdeenshire, part of the wider Chattan Confederation, tracing its chiefly line to Farquhar, a descendant of the Shaws of Rothiemurchus. Farquhar's son Donald married the heiress of Invercauld and was appointed Keeper of the King's Forests of Braemar, and Donald's own son, Finlay Mor, the first Farquharson of Invercauld, died carrying the royal standard at the Battle of Pinkie in 1547. The clan later purchased Braemar Castle in 1732 from its original builders, the Earls of Mar, and it remains linked to the family
