About this tartan

Clan Forbes takes its name from lands in Aberdeenshire held by the family since at least the reign of William the Lion in the 12th century, with a charter for the lands recorded in 1236. The family's head became Lord Forbes around 1436, a title still held by the clan chief today as the premier barony of Scotland. The clan's most notorious conflict was a long-running feud with Clan Gordon, which erupted into open battle at Tillieangus and Craibstone in 1571 and required parliamentary intervention to resolve
