About this tartan
Clan Macfie (also MacDuffie or MacPhee, from the Gaelic MacDhubhsith) is considered one of the older Hebridean clans, traditionally homed on the islands of Colonsay and Oronsay off Scotland's west coast, with a presence also in Lochaber and Galloway. The clan chief served as hereditary Custodian of Records for the MacDonald Lords of the Isles, and Macfie of Colonsay fought at Bannockburn in 1314. When the Crown broke up the Lordship of the Isles in the late 15th century, the Macfies suffered for their loyalty to it; a chief was cited for treason in 1531, and the last chief, Malcolm, was captured in 1623 after supporting a rising against the Crown, after which the clan was dispersed among the MacDonalds and Camerons
