About this tartan

Pentland is a Lowland Scottish surname derived from the ancient parish of Pentland in Midlothian. Early recorded bearers include Adam de Pentland (1298), Ralph de Penteland, a maritime trader at Montrose (1304), and John de Pentland, a wool and hide merchant (circa 1305). It is a locational surname rather than the name of a clan, and no chief or chiefly line is associated with it.
