About this tartan

Clan Scott rose to prominence in the Scottish Borders, where in 1322 Robert the Bruce granted the family territory in the Ettrick Forest in recognition of their loyalty. The name Buccleuch, associated with the clan's leading branch, comes from a legend of a Scott ancestor saving a king from a charging stag in a wooded ravine. The family's status grew substantially through a 1663 marriage between the Scott heiress Anna and James, Duke of Monmouth, illegitimate son of Charles II, who was created Duke of Buccleuch -- a title that has passed down through the family since
