About this tartan

Clan Stirling takes its name from the town and castle of Stirling, at a strategic crossing point long fought over in Scottish history. The chiefly line, Stirling of Cadder, is one of several branches that also include Stirling of Keir, Glorat, Garden and Faskine. The Keir branch acquired its Perthshire lands in the mid-1400s and produced Sir Archibald Stirling, a Royalist lawyer during the Civil War whose son founded the Garden branch and whose grandson, mathematician James Stirling, gained renown in the eighteenth century
