The Durie Legacy
The Durie family originates from lands of that name in Scoonie parish, Fife, granted in the 13th century to a younger son of the Earl of Strathearn. Though often called a clan, the Duries are a Lowland family rather than part of the Highland clan system. They held Craigluscar near Dunfermline for centuries, and several members rose to prominence in the church, including George Durie, Abbot of Dunfermline, and his brother Andrew, Bishop of Galloway. The family was without a recognized chief for a long period until 1988, when the Lord Lyon confirmed Lt Col Raymond Varley Dewar Durie's descent from Abbot George's line. Durie descendants dispersed widely, with branches recorded across Europe and the wider English-speaking world.
The clan's historic seat is associated with Craigluscar, near Dunfermline, Fife.
