Hone: Irish Surname History & Coat of Arms

Ó hEoghain · 'descendant of Eoghan' (well-born)

Woulfe (1923) prints Hone among the anglicised forms of Ó hEoghain, 'descendant of Eoghan' (well-born). He gives two families: a Dalcassian family in Clare who, according to Keating, are of the same stock as the O'Neills of Thomond, and an ecclesiastical family at Lough Erne, in the diocese of Clogher.
